If you’ve lived in the same neighborhood in Valparaiso for some time, your kids may be looking for a new trick-or-treating route. Luckily, Valparaiso has several go-to spots that help families create memorable Halloweens. Below, you can discover where to trick-or-treat this Halloween in Valparaiso, Indiana.

Trick-or-Treat in Valparaiso Downtown

Valparaiso Downtown’s trick-or-treat event is returning for 2022, and we’re predicting it’ll be just as fun as it was last year. This year, it’s taking place on Oct. 14, which is a Friday. It’s a great warm-up for the actual day of Halloween, and parents love it because it’s not a school night. It’ll run from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., so you won’t have to keep your kids up too late.

This event will be on, rain or shine, so you won’t have to make alternative plans if it happens to rain. Be sure to pack an umbrella just in case there are light showers so that your child can keep their costume in good shape.

Your young crew is free to show up in their silliest or scariest costumes. There’ll be a mix of young children dressed as ghouls, vampires, witches, goblins, animals, and food items, so a costume of any appropriate theme is welcome.

This event is truly a community-centric one, and that’s evident in its sponsors. A few notable sponsors include Purdue University Northwest, Stevenson, Fairchild, & Surber OMS, and Hilltop Neighborhood House.

In 2021, many downtown businesses participated in the distribution of treats. While there’s no official list of participating businesses for 2022 yet, we expect some repeat participants. Some businesses to look out for include Tony’s Place, Blackbird Cafe, Spice & Tea Exchange, FLUID, 1st Source Bank, Rolling Stone Baker, and Toys in the Attic.

Organizations from around Valparaiso, Indiana, also helped make the event memorable last year, and we anticipate that many of them will be back this year. In the Central Park Plaza and the Courthouse Lawn, your kids may find candy stations conducted by organizations like Orange Theory of Valparaiso, Currie Motors Ford of Valparaiso, Porter County Sheriff’s Department, Porter County Public Library, and Mirror Image Dance Academy.

Boo Bash at Prairie West Park

If you’re looking for some morning fun, you can visit the Boo Bash event at Prairie West Park. One of the highlights of this event is the Trunk-or-Treat area, where kids can collect candy from participating vehicles donned in the spookiest Halloween decorations. Other attractions include pumpkin decorating, carnival games, and train rides. Boo Bash encourages all attendees, adults and kids alike, to come in their best Halloween costumes.

The park will provide goodie bags and pumpkins while supplies last. This year, Boo Bash will occur on Oct. 22, which is a Saturday, from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. There will be plenty of open parking spots at St. John the Evangelist Office/School, so you don’t have to figure out the parking situation prior to your arrival.

Halloween Howl Fest and Run at Rogers Lakewood Park

What was once just a 2k/5k run is now an all-day Halloween event. The Halloween Howl Fest and Run at Rogers Lakewood Park is the perfect holiday event for active families. This year, it’ll occur on Saturday, Oct. 22. The festivities begin at 9 a.m. with a 5k run, followed by a 2k run at 9:30 a.m. and a dog run at 10 a.m. Afterward, the Howl Fest begins at 11 a.m., where you’ll find plenty to do, including trick-or-treating stations for kids dressed in their best Halloween costumes.

Other things you and your family can do at the Halloween Fest include making s’mores, listening to live music, completing arts and crafts, and enjoying hayrides. If you plan on participating in one of the runs, make sure you register in advance so that you can secure a spot and get a T-shirt. Otherwise, you can plan to show up for the post-run festivities free of charge.

Trunk-or-Treat at Barrington Ridge Baptist Church

Trunk-or-Treat at Barrington Ridge Baptist Church is an event that’s been going strong for the past four years. While there’s no official date yet, it’ll likely celebrate its fifth occurrence near the end of October. Last year, it was on Saturday, Oct. 30.

Your kids can collect candy at the Candy CAR-ousel. Once they’ve filled up their trick-or-treating pails to the brim, you can gather everyone at the area’s photo booth so that you can take a keepsake home with you. There are plenty of other activities to participate in while you’re here. For instance, your kids can run off some of their sugar-induced energy on the inflatable obstacle course.

If you need a break from candy, you can head to the Cookie Cavern, which features some delicious homemade baked goods. Still, other activities include watching the Singing Pumpkins and enjoying a family-friendly Halloween film at the outdoor movie theater area.

As this is an outdoor event, Barrington Ridge Baptist Church always takes extra safety precautions to ensure a safe and stress-free experience for parents and children alike. There are three parking lots in which you can park, and there are plenty of signs to direct cars and pedestrians safely. If you find yourself in one of the church’s lots that are further away, you can take a complimentary shuttle bus to avoid street traffic and prevent the need for a far walk.

Now that you know where to take your kids trick-or-treating this Halloween, you can focus on career-related endeavors. Even though we’re in a spooky season, there are certain sinister things you’ll want to avoid altogether. Some of the scariest things of all are cybersecurity issues.
