Success Story - Server Crash! - On the Weekend?! - No Problem!

Imagine that you arrive at your office on Monday morning to find that your server will not turn on. You try the power button… nothing. Your blood pressure starts to rise as you reach for the phone to call your computer support vendor. Could this happen to you? Well this ALMOST happened at Metzler Bros. Insurance but instead of arriving on Monday to a dead server, it was business as usual. Here’s how it happened…

The Purple Guys monitor all network devices 24x7 for our customers. We received a notification that there were issues with their production server on Saturday. We remotely connected to the environment, performed some diagnostics and determined that the server would not make it until Monday. We called our main contact, Alan Corbet, Business Manager of Metzler to give him a status update. He said to meet him there first thing Monday morning. In the meantime The Purple Guys immediately leveraged the on-site VersentVault business continuity appliance that allows us to “virtualize” any server in the environment. Within a few hours a “virtual” copy of the production server was up and running for Monday morning.

"I was surprised to hear from the Purple Guys on the weekend but relieved to know they had everything covered. Instead of being blindsided by a network outage, they were ready to go Monday morning.” Alan said.

Now here’s the “rest of the story.” The server was still under warranty and the Purple Guys facilitated the ordering/installation of the replacement parts. It should have been a quick, one day turn around but if you’ve ever dealt with a “computer manufacturer that shall remain nameless” you know that this is not always the case. Replacement parts that should have taken a day at most to install turned into a four day comedy of errors with the wrong parts being delivered not once but three times! In the end, everybody could laugh about it because as Alan put it “I was the only one that knew anything was wrong. Our users had no idea anything was going on. The Purple Guys had us covered before we knew there was a problem. Their VersentVault kept us up and running without any downtime while we went back and forth with our hardware vendor.”
