Tech Tips - What exactly is Web 2.0?
In studying and/or promoting web-technology, the phrase Web 2.0 can refer to a perceived second generation of web-based communities and hosted services — such as social-networking sites, wikis, and folksonomies — which aim to facilitate creativity, collaboration, and sharing between users. Although the term suggests a new version of the World Wide Web, it does not refer to an update to any technical specifications, but to changes in the ways software developers and end-users use webs. Here is a list of examples of Web 1.0 vs Web 2.0 from an article by Tim O’Reilly from September of 2005 (www.oreilly.com).

So what does this mean for you? Consider whether you can make use of the “collaborative” power of the web either from a personal or business perspective. As Thomas Friedman pointed out in his bestselling book The World Is Flat, we live on a connected planet. We now live in a global community. What that means for you or your business is up to you.
