Success Story - Please Help Katrina's Victims

Back in Volume 9 of The Verse, our Success Story was dedicated to helping the victims of the Tsunamis that struck Asia last December. Unfortunately, a terrible tragedy has befallen our fellow Americans and help is needed, so we again are using this forum to make this relief effort a “Success Story” of its own.

Last week, millions of Americans fled Hurricane Katrina. Across the South, families abandoned their homes and businesses, not knowing what would be there when they returned.

Many stayed behind and suffered devastating loss and injuries – as many as 10,000 may have lost their lives and hundreds of thousands need our help.

The vast number of evacuees has triggered a cascading crisis – the first group of evacuation centers in the Gulf States has been overwhelmed and the surrounding states have seen their capacity exceeded as well.

America is at its best when we realize that we are one community; that we're all in this together. That means that each one of us has the responsibility to do what we can to help the relief effort. We at Versent have given to the organizations below and we encourage everyone reading this message to help in any way you can. Thank you.

Heart to Heart International

Heart to Heart International is a global humanitarian organization, headquartered in Olathe, KS. They are committed to serving all people in need without regard to race, religion, personal or political beliefs. Your gift to Heart to Heart is tax deductible and 98% of all contributions go directly to their relief efforts – for every $1 given, an average of $25 in aid is delivered. Heart to Heart International has established a local presence in Jefferson Parrish, just south of New Orleans, to distribute food, water and personal hygiene products to those impacted by Hurricane Katrina. Dr. Gary Morsch, Heart to Heart's president and founder, is in Jefferson Parish leading their response effort and working to place a mobile health clinic in the area. "The need is acute," Dr. Morsch said. "We're doubling our efforts to provide help."
